The Metris Wave Curve from PWS has won the prestigious 2010 Grand Designs best kitchen award. The news was revealed at the glittering awards ceremony during the Grand Designs exhibition, where presenter Kevin McCloud awarded the coveted accolade in the form of a striking metallic trophy.
The best kitchen category included both modular and bespoke design entries. The appeal of the Wave Curve is that it achieves what historically has been a bespoke product, but is in fact ingeniously created from a modular 1200mm curved system. This ensures Wave Curve carries an unexpected level of versatility and is surprisingly affordable. The system has also achieved registered design status.
Over 500 entries were received across the 12 home and product categories, which were considered by a rigorous judging process. The panel of experts read like a who’s who of design – a 17-strong team including Sebastian Conran, Wayne Hemingway, George Clark, Jackie Daly, Clarissa Hulse, Orla Kiely and Robin Levien. The kitchen category attracted many high-profile and respected brands and the other short-listed finalists were Philippe Starck, Poliform, Arclinea, Binova and Alno.
Comments Barry Stubbs, design manager for Metris: “To be ranked alongside such formidable competition was an honour in itself but to have won overall is simply overwhelming. It’s less than a year since the Metris brand was launched to the consumer so such recognition is incredibly rewarding. It’s testament to all the hard work, expertise and dedication of the team behind the collection and we should all be very proud of this remarkable achievement.”
The Grand Designs award marks a hat trick of accolades for Metris, coming hot on the heels of the Homebuilding & Renovating best kitchen innovation and The Designer magazine’s gold award for product innovation.
