The manufacturing arm of a well-known high street retailer has purchased a wood waste heater and shredder from Wood Waste Technology.

Sofa manufacturer, DFS, purchased the WT25A automatic wood waste heater at the end of last year, for one of its wood mills in Alfreton, Derbyshire.

Management at the mill, where the wooden frames for DFS sofas are manufactured, realised a wood waste heater could help reduce manufacturing costs. The company was spending around £1200 a week on skips for wood waste, and around £30,000 per year on gas heating for the workplace.

A colleague recommended that DFS speak with Wood Waste Technology, so wood mill manager, Eddie McDermott got in contact with Kurt Cockroft – managing director at Wood Waste Technology – to find out more.

Once the team at DFS realised it would make a return on the investment in less than 12 months, it placed the order. It also purchased a GAZ102 shredder from Wood Waste Technology, the UK’s official distributor for Gross Apparatebau GmbH, a German manufacturer of dependable, precision engineered shredders and briquetters.

The wood waste heater and shredder were installed just before Christmas, and the DFS team was very impressed that Wood Waste Technology was able to install the items outside factory working hours, to avoid any disruption to manufacture.

Everyone at the mill is delighted with the wood waste heater. Eddie McDermott says: “It’s absolutely brilliant. I wish we’d invested in one several years ago when we first heard about them. We’re saving a fortune on skips and heating bills. The shredder gives us the flexibility of either burning the wood waste or putting it in our sawdust skip, which gets emptied free of charge.

“The team at Wood Waste Technology has been excellent, from helping us make a decision about buying the right heater, through to the installation and after service. We can’t recommend them highly enough.”

Wood Waste Technology’s years of expertise in wood waste solutions have helped many companies reduce their waste disposal and heating costs. As well as offering site survey, design, manufacture, installation and on-going maintenance for new units, the company also services all types of wood waste heaters and supplies genuine spares up to 60% cheaper than other suppliers.
