So far, 2014 seems to have been a clear indicator that the woodworking, joinery, furniture and panel processing trades in the UK marketplace are experiencing a definite upturn in business across the board, as seen by SCM Group UK’s service department.

SCM Group UK’s service manager, John Allenby, comments: “The demand for service and support has resulted in a further expansion to our service teams by adding two more technicians, bringing our total of employed field-based technicians up to 22, and there are certainly reasons to continue in this vein for the remainder of this year.

“The upturn is not just to any specific area of our industry but a general trend across the board and with the SCM portfolio of products being as comprehensive as it is, we are experiencing a demand from all quarters of the industry.”

“Such has been the demand for SCM contracted maintenance schemes that we have had to seriously consider our manning levels to be sure of coping,” states Adam Chambers, SCM’s assistant service manager, and we are preparing our on-going business strategy in relation to this fact.”

John Allenby continues: “These are of course nice problems to have and we hope and expect the trend to continue. However, we are faced with the W14 exhibition in October which we anticipate to be very busy this year and a very good exhibition, and hopefully, many orders will result, so we may have to consider accelerating our expansion plans further.”

The CMS arm of the SCM Group’s business has also continued to take significant orders in 2014, with Formula 1 and aerospace companies featuring strongly in the business upturn.
