The design of Interprint’s current decor book Living in Contrasts – Decor Trends 2013/2014 received the red dot award: communication design.

How should current decor trends be presented to an international audience in a focused way and simultaneously in an inspiring environment? The design of the award-winning book, according to the company, started with this central question. In the run-up to interzum this year, the Interprint marketing team developed an idea jointly with the Cologne-based Lamoto Agency: in the form of a decor book that not only illustrated but documents the tension of contrasts and thus surprises the visual habits of the target group. Living in Contrasts is the creative motto of the international decor printer.

The book presents this thought in a world full of contrasts. Visually, haptically and verbally. Decors full of character are shown next to facts, which in combination enhance the awareness and inspire the viewer.  The colours and structures of wood, stone, other materials and creative designs are given emotional appeal by the high-contrast design and tell their own stories. A context beyond the usual decor monotony. This was acknowledged with the coveted red dot for communication design.

The red dot design award is one of the world’s largest design competitions. The design centre of North-Rhine Westphalia has been awarding prizes for outstanding designs since 1954. The sought-after red dot has established itself as an internationally-recognised quality seal and is awarded in the disciplines of product design, design concept and communication design.

This year’s international jury evaluated each of about 6800 submissions live and on the spot during meetings over several days. Only the best were awarded the quality seal for design. The jury granted awards for outstanding creative performance in communication design only 509 times.

“The days on which big names in design from around the world come together on the occasion of the red dot adjudging process are full of surprises and inspiration each year again,” says Prof Dr Peter Zec, initiator and CEO of the red dot.

“Many of the numerous submissions, from a total of 43 countries, for the red dot award: communication design 2013, made an impression on the jury. But the award is only granted to those which stood out from the crowd in competition with others, show great market potential and economic visibility. The red dot design award reinforces this visibility to a high degree.”
