A PIABC quality-assured centre for woodworking machine operator training, Daltons Wadkin is expanding its activities in this sector and has now opened a fully-equipped training workshop and classroom at its Nottingham headquarters in order to provide an alternative to its regular on-site training.

The workshop is equipped with a range of classical machines with full extraction and tooling and is permanently available for use by students either singly or in groups.  Training courses can be arranged on specific or individual machine types or across the full range of equipment. A dedicated classroom is available for further study and participants can take advantage of comprehensive and fully illustrated training manuals for each machine type.

Daltons Wadkin has recently appointed two new fully qualified and experienced training personnel who will interchange between the in-house facility and their day-to-day training on-site at customers’ premises. Equipped with transport and a range of tooling to suit different training requirements, and of course their by-now well-known ‘red tops’, the trainers cover the whole of the UK and Ireland providing certificated operator training for individuals or large groups on site using the machinery they employ on a day-to-day basis.

Courses are individually tailored and cover a diverse range of needs with the common objective of achieving safe and best use of woodworking machinery. Training covers most types of machine from small classical models up to CNC and schemes are available both for beginners and more experienced operators as well as refresher training when required.

Clients range from small businesses with limited workshop facilities to high production joinery and furniture manufacturers, aerospace and automotive industries, public authorities and government departments.

Francis Dalton comments: “Demand is on the increase for these services and as a major supplier of woodworking machinery we regard it as an obligation to be able to provide top class operator training wherever it is required. Our customer base is expanding and we are going to need more trainers to keep up but importantly we go to great lengths to ensure that every training session, large or small, is conducted professionally and efficiently by our own fully qualified personnel.

As part of the service we also provide health and safety information in order to help our customers keep up with the latest regulations and to ensure that their machinery is PUWER compliant and also carry out risk assessments when required. We are aiming high but whether provided as a stand-alone service or an add-on benefit to our machine sales, we plan to both expand the operation and continue to drive up standards and expertise in this area.”

Daltons Wadkin worked hard to ensure that its training activities meet the most professional standards and was rewarded by receiving the coveted PIABC Quality Approval in 2015.
