High-end timber window and door specialist Gowercroft Joinery has scooped the ‘Family Business of the Year’ category of the prestigious 2021 Midlands Business Awards.

The annual award, which is now in its 15th year, celebrates entrepreneurship, innovation and business growth of the region’s most dynamic and successful companies and organisations across a wide range of industries and sectors.

Formed in 1998 as a family run business, Gowercroft has grown from a modest three-man joinery shop to an award-winning manufacturer of windows and doors with a reputation for quality and innovation and with a string of high-profile projects to its name.

Gowercroft has followed a path of investment in skilled personnel and the latest to technology

The company’s outstanding success has been based on a strategy of controlled growth through careful sector targeting and a programme of new product development - an approach which has led to the introduction of three pioneering timber window and door ranges: the Classic range for the traditional home,

the Heritage range designed primarily for the conservation and listed properties and the Frontier range which is made to Passivhaus standards for the future build market.

“Defining our target markets and responding to growth opportunities with innovative new product lines utilising modern, sustainable, and energy efficient materials such as Accoya® and ultra-thin vacuum glazing has been a central part of our success, enabling us to meet market needs in a better way,” said MD Andrew Madge.

“Expanding and streamlining our manufacturing capacity and upskilling our workforce has also enabled us to operate more efficiently in order to keep pace with our rapidly growing order book.”

In the last two years, Gowercroft has invested in over £350,000 in state-of-the-art machinery and software. The company has also added a new 10,000 sq ft manufacturing unit to its existing workshop in Alfreton, Derbyshire and has taken on 10 new staff members since the start of the pandemic.

“We are delighted to have won this prestigious business award.  It is an important recognition not only of our achievements and business growth to date, but also of our potential going forward, as we introduce ways to reach new markets and give even better service our commercial and domestic customers,” said Andrew.

As part of its ambitious plans for the future, Gowercroft Joinery is now moving to the next stage of its growth strategy by actively seeking new partners to grow its network of regional dealers.
