The British Furniture Manufacturers (BFM) is placing more regional industry networking events across the country on its agenda, after the first meeting of its type was warmly received by the sector.

Over 40 people turned out for the industry get together, developed specifically for the furniture community, at Ercol’s manufacturing headquarters in Princes Risborough.

The theme of the event was ‘The Workforce of Tomorrow’ and participants heard how to recruit and engage with younger people to attract them to the sector.

Open to BFM members and non-members, the networking session also included a tour of Ercol’s factory.

“We were delighted with the turnout to the networking session, and the content of the evening," says Sean Holt, BFM Managing Director.

“Members were not only updated on how to attract and retain new talent, but also had the opportunity to tour the world class furniture manufacturing facility at Ercol.

“We’ve had great feedback. There’s a sense that there’s a real desire in our industry to come together to network and share best practice.

“Ercol was a fantastic setting and we are grateful to all the team there for making us feel so welcome, and to all the furniture manufacturers, suppliers, buyers and sellers for coming along and supporting the event.

“This was the first of the BFM Regional Meetings and we now look forward to organising many more of these throughout the UK.

“As the BFM evolves, it is committed to giving its members greater value for money. These planned events are designed to give members an insight into contemporary issues, share information and network with colleagues from the sector.

“It is also a great opportunity for non-members to attend and see what opportunities BFM membership offers. We would appreciate suggestions from members as to the topics and issues they would like BFM to cover.”
