Student has found a novel way of dealing with Britain’s textiles and clothing waste – by turning it into chairs.

The 23-year-old, who is graduating in BA Furniture Product Design at Nottingham Trent University, created a lounge chair by turning offcuts of material into felt before covering the felt with bio-resin.

Jake, originally from Headingley in Leeds, says: “When you consider how much landfill is generated each year from thrown-away clothes and other discarded textiles, it’s clear that we need to be more imaginative with our waste.

“What’s more important than saving the planet? The point of the project is to show how this could be mass-manufactured, in order to capitalise on the environmental benefits.”
