Redwood Innovations has seen a surge in demand for fire-retardant coatings in recent years and Hesse Lignal’s Fantastic-Clear multicoat lacquer not only meets, but exceeds current standards for fire-retardant coatings in the manufacturing industries.

Fire-retardant coatings are no longer a want but are now a must for many UK manufacturers, with the main driver for doing so being safety.

However, despite the demand from manufacturers, many traditional coatings sold on the market still lack fire-resistant properties and are even potentially flammable.

Hesse Lignal has recognised this need for several years now and has been at the forefront of using innovative technology based at its Hamm, Germany headquarters to develop coatings which go beyond current standards for fire-retardant coatings.

As part of its Fantastic range, Hesse has developed Fantastic-Clear – a highly resistant, lightfast polyurethane lacquer. When applied to veneered FR chipboard it will maintain to Class B-s1, d0; which is the classification of fire behaviour tested under EN 13501-1. This highly durable multicoat lacquer is suitable for a wide variety of environments – from commercial restaurants and shops, to the everyday homeowner’s kitchen and bathroom.

As to be expected from Hesse, safety does not stop with the fire testing. Its coatings are free of wood preservatives, toxic-heavy metals, phthalate plasticisers, formaldehyde, and volatile aromatic and halogenated organic compounds, to ensure the safety for both the manufacturer and its customers.
