In June 2020, Jet Press delivered a Rivet T-Nut machine to specialist healthcare and riser recliner chair maker, Repose Furniture. Since 1999 Repose have built an excellent reputation for designing, manufacturing and supplying highly engineered seating solutions.

These healthcare and riser recliner chairs improve the lives of people with disabilities and other medical conditions. Customers include families, care homes, hospitals and other specialist environments in the UK and abroad.

If a Rivet T-Nut Machine is the answer what was the question?

James Hewlett, Industrial Designer at Repose Furniture, describes the situation before they invested in a Rivet T-Nut Machine. “Each chair has 20-30 T-Nuts. We were using tap in T-Nuts but they could easily fall out during production. So, we also had to staple a piece of card over the T-Nut to keep it in place. Both were manual operations and took a lot of time.”

With the support of David Elcocks, Production & Development Director at Repose Furniture, James looked at ways to improve the production process. He approached Jet Press and sent samples of the materials to be used. Jet Press returned them with Sigma Rivet T-Nuts inserted and it was clear a Rivet T-Nut machine would be right for Repose Furniture.

According to James “Everything went smoothly. Jet Press had the machine in stock and they came out, installed it and gave us the training. When we needed support the Jet Press engineer came out despite the Covid situation and everything was sorted out. We are very happy with the process”.

James pointed out another benefit of the Rivet T-Nuts. “These Rivet T-Nuts are flared so it takes the bolt better. No more cross-threading now”.

A range of Rivet T-Nut machines

Repose Furniture are using the Table-Top T-Nut Insertion Machine. This machine is capable of up to 1,000 Rivet T-Nut insertions per hour. There is also a hopper fed Floor Rivet T-Nut Insertion Machine capable of up to 2,000 T-Nut insertions per hour.

The Drill Drive and Rivet T-Nut Machine combines drilling, insertion and riveting of the Sigma T-Nut into a single operation. The cycle time for the drill, drive and rivet process is around two seconds so depending on the complexity of the application up to 1500 insertions an hour is possible. All these machines are powered by compressed air.

Repose Furniture will get a free annual service as long as they keep using Sigma T-Nuts supplied by Jet Press.
