A leading company that provides an off-site cutting service to the construction trade recently selected Homag as its preferred supplier of sawing equipment.

MasterCut London is a relatively new, family-run business that was set up in 2019. It prides itself on providing a reliable service at a very competitive price. The company specialises in the cutting of plasterboard for the construction trade.

The cutting of this material on construction sites is being phased out due to health and safety concerns, alongside new regulations. This has significantly increased the construction trade’s demand for pre-cut plasterboard panels.

Moving from manual to automated production

Due to the necessity to increase productivity, MasterCut’s MD, Costy Croitorui, decided to substantially improve his company’s production assets. He opted to upgrade MasterCut’s panel-cutting production processes from manual to fully automated by investing in a customised Homag Sawteq B-300 panel dividing saw.

Commenting on the machinery selection process, Costy says: “Homag was my preferred supplier. I obtained quotes from other potential suppliers, but soon appreciated the value of the Homag package compared to the others. I chose Homag for many reasons, not least because of the superior and timely communications I experienced when dealing with them.

“The quality and reliability of the Homag saw were important factors in the selection process. The cutting of plasterboard generates a vast amount of dust, so we need reliable, high-quality equipment that has the advanced technical ability to cope in such a tough environment for a long time.

“To help us customise the Sawteq B-300 to meet our demanding requirements and budget, a Homag sales representative, Charles Smith, visited our 5000 sq ft production site. He was exceptionally knowledgeable about the equipment we required and the ways it would benefit our business.

“To view the specified equipment in operation, Charles took us to another business that had installed that model. This was very insightful and useful, as we were able to investigate the multiple benefits the machinery had delivered to that business.”

Fast delivery and installation

Costy was also impressed with Homag’s fast machine delivery and installation service. He found that Homag offered the shortest delivery lead times of the three supplies he had shortlisted.

To avoid production disruption, Homag agreed to a rapid install of the Sawteq B-300 at MasterCut London’s Essex-based production site.

Costy says: ‘’The installation of the saw was handled very professionally and prevented any extensive delays to our manufacturing. Homag’s technicians helped us swiftly accelerate our production capabilities. Operator training was provided immediately following the installation of the equipment, which kept our downtime to an absolute minimum.

“We were delighted with the exceptional service Homag provided. We also value Homag’s renowned aftersales service, which we can fully rely on for the rare occasions it may be required.”

Improved production rates and reduced labour costs

According to Costy, with the new Sawteq B-300, the company is now six times more productive than it was before the investment. The equipment can be programmed to automatically cut panels of plasterboard to customers’ exact specifications. This work had previously been done manually, so the new equipment has reduced labour costs, too.

Due to the increased productivity, MasterCut London is now able to offer a significantly faster delivery service to its customers, which mostly comprise builders and property developers.
