After many years of extensive research, Decorative Panels Lamination (DPL) has developed a product that not only offers designers and manufacturers the benefits of weight saving, but one that is also designed for ease of onward processing in any factory environment – introducing dp-lite.

DPL has a dedicated production line for the manufacture of full sheet dp-lite hollowcore material. This sandwich board material has a very strong honeycomb core, and by the very nature of its construction, it uses less wood based raw material, offering typical weight savings of 60% when compared to solid substrate materials. The construction also means that less wood-based raw material is used which offers clear environmental advantages.

Manufactured with 5mm MDF outer skins, standard dp-lite can be used in furniture construction with ease using standard fittings – making it an ideal product for the furniture, shopfitting and exhibition industries.

Thanks to the 5mm MDF skins, a standard PVC/ABS edgebanding of 1.5mm or thicker can be applied using traditional methods without the need for a supportive edge. This can be achieved on many modern edgebanders without further investment using an unfilled hotmelt or PUR glue. Curved edges are also a possibility by processing the dp-lite the same way as processing and routing chipboard.

New developments in dp-lite technology mean that DPL is now able to offer plywood faced hollowcore sheet materials down to 12mm in thickness. The advantages of this product are most prominent in the leisure and vehicle industry where weight saving is paramount. Facing dp-lite with plywood skins means that the material is suitable for use in the leisure caravan sector as an interior board solution.

To make dp-lite more available to the this expanding market, DPL is now bulk-stocking full sheet material in thicknesses 22mm, 35mm and 50mm. These are held in a full pack form in a dedicated racking system and are available for immediate dispatch as raw material.

dp-lite is suitable for painting, natural wood veneering or for onward lamination with any of the designs from the dp-décor and dp-specialist range. Board packs are available on a typical lead time of three to five days from receipt of order.

dp-lite is already a recognised material in the furniture and leisure industries but it is also perfectly suited for use by exhibition and shopfitting companies due to its strength and incredible weight-saving characteristics.

dp-lite is available as a completely frameless material, or alternatively, complete with strategically-placed longitudinal rails. The longitudinal MDF rails can be placed across the board to a customer’s specification. This allows for a rail to be positioned along a cut line, providing a solid edge for applications such as back panel fixing.

A modern, contemporary look can be quickly and easily achieved by adding chunky dp-lite décor end panels to an existing range.

Using dp-lite for all applications couldn’t be easier. To demonstrate just how easy it is, DPL has put together a quick start guide aimed at providing customers with all the information needed regarding the dp-lite product.
