Joinery and woodworking businesses will get a marketing boost this spring, thanks to practical support from the British Woodworking Federation (BWF) which has published a marketing toolkit to help its members plan more effectively and trade more profitably.

The marketing toolkit is a helping hand for businesses that are unfamiliar or struggle with putting marketing plans together. It also offers support and guidance for businesses looking to refresh their existing plans.

It includes a marketing template which allows firms to assess their current market and upcoming opportunities, playing close attention to competitors. The template is supported by simple guidance and examples to make the process easy to complete. It allows businesses to set SMART objectives, think about key messages, tactics and set budgets. The next stage is developing an action plan and how to measure activity to ensure the plan is working.

Dave Campbell, BWF training manager says: “As the construction sector picks up pace this year, joinery businesses need to be prepared and competitive with solid, well-thought out plans for the year ahead.

“Our members recognise the importance of marketing but don’t necessarily have the resources or expertise needed. That’s why we decided to develop a marketing toolkit that is easily accessible and makes the process simpler for businesses already working flat out. We hope the marketing toolkit will enable members to keep one step ahead and achieve some great results.”

The BWF plans to expand the Toolkit in 2014 with more resources, templates and training opportunities so that businesses can maximise their market share.
