A new SCA Timber plant was inaugurated on Tuesday, 18th March at Melton on Humberside by Ulf Larsson, president of SCA Forest Products, in the company of guests and senior management from SCA Timber AB and SCA Timber Supply UK. So far, 32 new jobs have been created at the site, with the potential for more to follow during the summer.

In planting a commemorative tree and presenting a plaque to site manager Paul Westgarth, Ulf Larsson commented: "SCA is pleased to put down further roots here on Humberside, creating an efficient flow from our importing base through to manufacturing wood products. We’re also pleased to be recruiting employees from the local area who will no doubt use their skills to help us develop our business.”

SCA’s Melton wood processing plant receives its timber from SCA’s importing hub on the King George Dock at Hull, which the company opened in 2005. Approximately 50,000 cubic metres of wood will be processed annually through SCA Melton, going into the supply chains of the company’s builders’ merchant and joinery production customers.

SCA Melton is one of three UK locations operated by SCA Timber Supply UK, the others being its Welshpool, Powys, plant, which also services the builders’ merchant sector and its headquarters in Stoke-on-Trent, from which it services the DIY sector with wood products. SCA Timber Supply in the UK has 220 employees across its three sites.
