Schelling UK’s new 22,000 sq ft facility in Wetherby, West Yorkshire was officially opened by Schelling UK managing directors Markus Freuis and Stefan Hinterholzer along with Schelling managing partner Wolfgang Rohner.

The Schelling UK business started out in 1989 with three engineers in a small 5000 sq ft unit in Sherburn in Elmet, North Yorkshire. During the 1990s and 2000s the business grew steadily and created an enviable reputation for its robust and reliable beam saws, around 65% of which are still working where they were installed. Today the firm boasts eight full time engineers, many with extensive Schelling UK service records.

Last year was not a vintage year for Schelling UK – it sold only a handful of new machines. This year however has been much more like it: “Last year was not a good year, but this year has started really well,” explains Markus, “it’s only April and already we have sold twice as many machines as we did during the whole of last year.”

The new facility is a sizeable premises with good access to the A1 and allows Schelling UK to demonstrate its full potential with both new and used machinery – not just in terms of sales and service, but also in terms of being able to try machines out, before making a decision.

Schelling UK will be marking its 25th anniversary with a party and customer open day on Thursday 18th and Friday 19th September. Presentations will include the FK6 330, the S45 and the fh4 430/220.

To the front of the building is a very professional reception area – complete with a Furniture Production graphic on the wall! – leading to well-appointed office space. All of the fixtures were kindly left in situ by the previous owner, who now rents the upstairs part of the building from Schelling UK.

Across into the main showroom area, there is a clean and well-lit open space. There will normally be a range of new machines here – typically three at a time – with the associated handling and extraction equipment. But for the opening, there was an fh4 being put through its paces. To the side of that, there is a spare parts store with around £80-100k of service equipment. A meeting room and canteen completes the space here.

To the rear of the main space, through an industrial strip PVC curtain, there is a larger space devoted to used machinery which is seen by Schelling UK as a key part of its growth strategy. In fact, so well engineered are Schelling’s saws that the company has a significant waiting list for a range of machinery it previously was unable to satisfy and this facility brings that within reach.

The new Schelling UK address is: Osbourne House, Sandbeck Way, Wetherby, Leeds LS22 7DN.
