Leading industry provider Daltons Wadkin has seen demand for its certificated operator training courses increase exponentially over the past 12 months.

Now with a dedicated training department and expanding red team of trainers, Daltons Wadkin continues to offer tailored courses to new and experienced operators across a range of sectors including general joinery, saw mills, prison service, DIY chain stores and kitchen/cabinet manufacturers, helping companies ‘Train Smarter to Machine Smarter.’

Nigel Layton is the latest addition to the red team of operator trainers. To say Nigel is keen about training would be an understatement. “I first realised how much I love helping others learn when I started coaching a local youth football team some years ago,” enthuses Nigel.

“I had spent a long time in the woodworking industry and even ran my own business before joining Daltons Wadkin. Being able to relate to operators puts them on your side which is half the battle in teaching, especially in such a specialised industry.”

“We have very strict selection criteria when it comes to appointing new trainers,” comments company director Alex Dalton. “Each candidate must have a minimum of 10 years hands on experience operating woodworking machinery, with a natural aptitude for teaching. Each of our trainers undertakes a CIEH level 3 course in education and training to ensure they have the right skills to effectively teach and assess learners.”

Daltons Wadkin has recently been awarded the respected PIABC quality assurance approval for its training courses. “We are continually assessing our training services. Everything from the way our trainers are presented to the certificates issued and final customer feedback is monitored to ensure we are delivering the very highest standards,” comments Alex.

“Our industry leading training material gets constant praise and is something we are very proud of. The PIABC approval is testament to continuing commitment to quality and service.”

The majority of the courses are carried out at customers own sites with learners being assessed on the actual machines they use on a daily basis, but Daltons Wadkin also offer courses at their Nottingham training facility which minimises workplace disruption and downtime for customers.

Certificated operator training is just one part of the range of Support Services that Daltons Wadkin offer, including machine maintenance and breakdown assistance, LEV testing, tooling and spare part supply, machinery removal and transport services.
