Along with representatives from family businesses from the North West of England, JJ Smith attended the North West Family Business Awards 2020 and came away with two awards: the People’s Choice: Merseyside and the Judge’s Choice! Hosted by food writer and presenter, Nigel Barden, and held under the wings of Concorde, the event was dedicated to celebrating the sector in the region.
JJ Smith is rightly very proud to win the People’s Choice Merseyside award and would like to thank everyone who voted. They were ‘blown away’ to also win The Judge’s Choice award too, who said this before they received the award...
“The judges felt they wanted to recognise one particular Family Business for the incredible work that they do, not only for their community and young people in their area, but also for their employees who are also multi-generational, a company with heritage but also with a bright sustainable future ahead of it.”
Sue Howorth, founder and co-director of The Family Business Network and The North West Family Business Awards said: “This has been a fantastic event, which really has celebrated the great work family businesses do, which enriches their communities and the country’s economy. It was a tough job for the judges as the standard of entries was so high. The support from the public who helped select the winners of the People’s Choice and Employee of the Year was outstanding. We had over 4537 votes for the People’s Choice!”
Jacqui Jackson from Thomas Jardine & Co and the awards chair of judges added: “The number and quality of applications from across the North West have been outstanding. The businesses are clearly proud to be family businesses, and the detail in many of the entries has demonstrated that they are very progressive and innovative.”
Rachael Baker, commercial director, said: “Well done to everyone JJ Smith for making us the successful family business that we are! We pride ourselves on being a fourth generation family company so we are more than thrilled to receive these awards. It was a great evening! The North West has some fantastic family businesses so to have won is a real honour.”
