Handy’s Stoke based factory/distribution facility

Handy Ltd, a leading supplier of bedding and upholstery components has reached an agreement to acquire the non-zip related assets and sales from Aero Zip Ltd, which include elastic webbing, hook & loop, piping cord and flanged edge roll, elastic, narrow woven polyester tapes, non-woven fabrics and valance board.

The announcement has come as Will Evans, who founded Aero Zip 40 years ago, revealed his intention to retire and the phased closure of Aero Zip.  With an existing product range of over 1500 tried and tested components, the acquisition will help Handy expand its offering to UK upholstery and bedding manufacturers, while developing new relationships with current Aero Zip customers. From September, Handy will manage the distribution and sales of all Aero’s non-zip related business.

Nick Harland-Smith, MD of Handy, said: “We are very excited to absorb the Aero Zip product range into Handy. The business is well known for their high-quality components which will fit perfectly amongst our diverse range of products.

“We are also looking forward to building new relationships with Aero Zip’s existing customer base and would like to re-assure them that this will be a smooth transition period.”

Having supplied the industry for over 30 years, the acquisition goes hand in hand with Handy’s long-term growth strategy, which included doubling the size of their factory/distribution facility in 2014 and introducing a new website last year to offer 24/7 online ordering for existing customers.

In recent years Handy has also expanded its specialist services which include product development, button covering, tufting assembly and bespoke packaging.

Nick added: “We are proud to be able to offer a one-stop shop for our customers, creating unique partnerships which help improve production processes, cut costs and ultimately lead to high-quality products for the end consumer.”
