The Furniture Industry Research Association (FIRA) has published its Autumn 2025 edition of the Statistics Digest, offering a comprehensive and data-driven overview of the UK furniture and furnishings sector.
This 42-page report draws on official data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) and HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC), covering the period from 2019 to 2024.
The digest provides essential insights for manufacturers, retailers, suppliers, and policymakers, helping to inform strategic planning, identify growth opportunities, and understand evolving consumer behaviours.
Key findings include:
- £47.9 billion total sector value in 2024, encompassing consumer spending, UK manufacturing, and imports
- Over 225,000 jobs supported across the furniture and furnishings supply chain (2023)
- £10.8 billion in UK furniture manufacturing sales in 2024
- A £3.2 billion decline in consumer spending between 2022 and 2024
- A persistent £7 billion trade deficit, with China accounting for nearly 40% of imports (£4.06 billion)
Despite economic headwinds, the UK furniture sector remains resilient, diverse, and vital to regional development and employment.
