Furniture maker collapse cuts 300 jobs with almost £14m debt

A new progress report from administrators tracking the collapse of Ilkeston-based Westbridge Furniture has detailed the final closure of the business, confirming the loss of all 298 jobs and total debts reaching nearly £14 million.

The manufacturing company, which operated as part of the Belfield Group, initially entered administration on March 23rd, 2026, due to severe financial pressures.

Joint administrators Chris Pole and Will Wright from Interpath Advisory said additional work had been required to recover outstanding debts, negotiate with creditors and complete the company’s closure.

The complex closure process involved navigating numerous retention-of-title claims from suppliers looking to recover unpaid materials. Interpath reported £1.43 million in accrued time costs, representing 1,679 hours of work.

The administration period is scheduled to conclude on March 22, 2027, allowing the team to finalise outstanding debt collections and wrap up tax affairs. Creditors have already approved a motion to move Westbridge Furniture directly into formal dissolution once the administration ends.
