In May, Mirka visited LAB University of Applied Sciences in Lahti – Finland’s most diverse hub of the wood industry. The aim of the visit was to provide wood technology students and staff with up-to-date knowledge about dust-free sanding, and to showcase the innovative solutions developed by Mirka for woodworking and the needs of the wood industry.
The Mirka Experience Day included both theoretical instruction and practical training. Participants were introduced to Mirka’s sustainability initiatives, such as the circular economy-based CIGMA production facility for abrasive grains currently under construction in Jepua. A strong focus was placed on how dust-free sanding enhances workplace safety, improves finish quality, and boosts efficiency.
The day was met with enthusiastic feedback and reinforced the value of collaboration between education and industry. For Mirka, engaging with future professionals is key to building a safer, more sustainable wood sector.
"It’s fantastic to be able to share our expertise with students who are the future professionals of the wood industry," says Lasse Pelkonen, Mirka’s key account manager, who was responsible for the day’s training content.
"We want to highlight how dust-free sanding can significantly improve the working environment and productivity, even on an industrial scale."
