On 14th and 15th April, the Aula Magna of the University of Florence hosted the 26th edition of the International Wood Machining Seminar (IWMS), a biennial seminar that has been a reference point for the world of woodworking for over 50 years.
Created with the aim of creating a bridge between scientific research and industry, the IWMS is held in rotation between America, Asia and Europe, bringing together experts, scholars, technicians and companies from all over the world. The Florentine edition of 2025 has been confirmed as an international event: the 70 expected participants include delegations from France, Austria, the United Kingdom, Poland, Germany, Finland, Japan, Canada, Chile, Slovenia, Sweden, the United States and, of course, Italy.
Among the 47 scientific contributions on the programme, there was also a talk by Marco Venturini, Sanding and Pressing Technical Manager of SCM, on the opportunities linked to laser processing, an application area in which SCM has invested heavily in research and development with the launch of a new dmc system wide belt sander.
Space was also given to key insights on the main changes taking place in the market, with the speech ‘Driving Digital Servitization Forward’ by Alessandra Benedetti, Director of Digital Transformation&Business Remodeling of Scm Group.
On 16th and 17th April, the event continued with an interesting technical tour that offered participants the opportunity to visit three high-profile companies in the sector. A visit to the SCM Headquarters, the Technology Center and the Control Room was not to be missed, in order to experience first-hand the Group's new digital services aimed at enhancing production efficiency.
