TDUK releases new trade note on Temporary Duty Suspensions

TDUK has released a new Trade Note containing the latest information on the 2024 Duty Suspension Application Process affecting Plywood Products.

Over recent months, TDUK has worked with the Department of Business and Trade to clarify confusion over revisions to this process, and DBT has now published an amended list of Suspensions of Import Duty Rates (Version 2.9), which includes revised text for the four Plywood categories that were announced in April.

The 2024 Duty Suspension application process allows UK businesses, principally domestic manufacturers, to make a business case for temporary suspension of import duty on specific raw materials in order to maintain their global competitiveness.

This list is notable in that it contains four specific Plywood customs codes within which for certain Plywood products duty suspensions are expected to take effect on 18 July, 2025. The suspensions will remain in place until 30 June 2027.

The duty suspensions ONLY apply where the imported product is declared against the specific customs code AND meets the technical description published in the 2024 Duty Suspension list.

Two of the Plywood product codes remain as originally published in April, but two have been amended to address the concerns raised by TDUK members.
