As lead organisers of the Wood Awards for the fourth consecutive year, Timber Development UK has unveiled this year’s shortlist of buildings, furniture pieces, and objects — each recognised for its visionary and innovative use of wood.
The 30 shortlisted projects, which are in the running for awards in six building categories and four furniture and object categories, are located across the United Kingdom, from the Cornish coast to the Lake District National Park, and from central London to the Isle of Skye.
Among the 20 shortlisted buildings is a barrel-vaulted extension to a coroner’s court, a redevelopment of a historic water mill, a new CLT-framed social housing terrace and a vibrant performing arts hub utilising both reused and engineered timber.
The 10 shortlisted furniture & object projects include a freestanding demountable kitchen, a thought-provoking collection of hand-carved sculptural vessels and an experimental jetty structure made from forest thinnings.
The shortlisted projects have been carefully selected from hundreds of high quality entries by two expert, independent juries – one for Buildings, chaired by Jim Greaves of Hopkins Architects, and one for Furniture & Objects, chaired by leading designer Sebastian Cox.

"TDUK are incredibly proud to run the Wood Awards, working with our partners AHEC and the Carpenters' Company. No other competition in the UK matches its rigour as a showcase of excellence in timber design and construction.
"Congratulations to everyone shortlisted. We look forward to welcoming you to explore the exhibition at Material Matters later this month - and to celebrating the winners at our awards ceremony in November.”
The full shortlist will be on display in a dedicated exhibition at Space House in London as part of Material Matters, from Wednesday 17th – Saturday 20th September.
