TAKA-WPR elevates panel & profile wrapping at SICAM 2026

From 20th to 23rd October, Fiera di Pordenone hosted SICAM 2026, the international exhibition for furniture components and technologies. At Hall 7, Stand A8, TAKA-WPR occupied a space twice the size of previous editions, designed for one purpose: in-depth conversations on panel and profile wrapping.

Quality is a matter of process

A quality adhesive is essential, but not enough. Wrapping and lamination involve numerous parameters which, if not carefully measured and controlled, affect the quality of panels and foiled products. Minimising defects also depends on trained operators. This is the rationale behind the TAKA-WPR Academy, which brings together TAKA, Italian historical producer of HMPUR adhesives, and WPR, an Italian wrapping machine manufacturer with over 25 years of experience.

Over ten years of work with companies worldwide, the Academy has focused on solutions already validated in practice, delivered in its classrooms and laboratories or directly at the customer’s plant.

The case for HMPUR

EVA and PO hot melts remain the default for many manufacturers, yet their limits are well known: low heat resistance, sensitivity to moisture and vulnerability to solvents, all critical for kitchens, bathrooms and sea-container shipping.

HMPUR adhesives offer superior resistance to heat, humidity and chemicals, bond a wide range of substrates, and require only half to a third of the quantity of traditional hot melts. Application temperatures of 130-140°C, against 190-210°C, also cut energy consumption. The cost per kilogram is higher, but lower consumption brings overall cost close to traditional solutions, with a marked step up in product quality.

Safer chemistry: the LESS Line

Launched in 2023 in response to REACH requirements on diisocyanates, TAKA’s LESS Line contains monomeric MDI below 0.1%. These adhesives need no hazard labelling and no mandatory safety training, with the same bonding performance as standard HMPUR.

A complete range

The portfolio covers edgebanding, profile wrapping and panel lamination, with bio-based versions containing up to 20% renewable raw material available across all three families.

Starting from the process

Technical specialists from TAKA and WPR are always available to discuss how to set up a wrapping department as well optimising an existing line.
