UNTHA: shredding the competition

For over 50 years, UNTHA has been committed to designing and manufacturing robust, cost-effective solution for the efficient recycling of waste wood in the woodworking industry.

With a clear focus on creating solutions that can be integrated into any manufacturing facility – either as a stand-alone solution or as part of a complete system – UNTHA’s LIGNA stand centred around its large range of wood shredders, conveyor systems and the launch of its fourth generation RS30 wood waste shredder.

“For decades, the RS series has been a dominant feature in the woodworking industry,” begins Andy Hepworth, Sales Manager at IMA Schelling UK. “It’s been designed with carpentry and joinery shops in mind and can be fully customised to reflect the material density, size and volume of material needing to be disposed of. It makes it a great workhorse for those processing solid and cross-cut wood, veneers, wood with metal inclusions and wet wood.”

So, what’s new on the fourth-generation RS30? Compact and robust in design, the new model offers an increased throughput due to modifications to the perforated screen body and the cutting mechanism symmetry. Andy explains, “Put simply, this means it can shred higher volumes of waste more quickly. Designed to fit comfortably into the smallest of workshops, the 4-shaft shredder can be characterised by even more power, more efficiency and higher operating times.”

It’s design has also be streamlined to offer even simpler use – with the addition of an LED light bar that indicates the shredder‘s operating status, the easy lowering of its perforated screens and faster disassembly of its suction hood.

UNTHA’s largest wood shredder, the LR1400, was partnered with a conveyor belt and metal separator at LIGNA. Designed for use where large quantities of waste wood accumulates, the powerful machine is used primarily for demanding shredding processes that require high through-put rates. Andy says, “Thanks to its size, the LR shredder is ideal for recycling hardwood and softwood, OSB, chipboard and MDF boards, veneers, cross-cut wood, construction timber and pallets. The LR1400 also incorporates energy-efficient technology to help companies meet their sustainability goals.”

The LR1400 utilises cutting tools with a special blade geometry designed to use minimal  energy consumption and features a motor that automatically switches off if no material is fed for three minutes. This saves energy and at the same time reduces operating costs.

Andy adds, “Wood waste is more than just an inconvenience. For growing joinery and furniture workshops, it’s often a hidden cost and a missed opportunity. Re-thinking how you handle it could be the key to building a production process that scales. The partnership between IMA Schelling UK and UNTHA sees our machines work in tandem to enable companies to recycle waste wood in a meaningful way, reducing costs and improving their carbon footprint.”

That’s not just smart waste handling. That’s smart growth.
