The furniture fair Imm Cologne and Living Kitchen introduced this year the most important trends for the furniture production of tomorrow. The edging specialist Ostermann was able to gain an overall picture and can provide practical advice about which edgings are trendy.

Trend 1: natural materials
The natural and authentic materials, such as metal, stone and real woods remain in trend. Oak is one of the most frequently used woods used for the furniture production.

Here, mainly light oak tones were on show, with a more conspicuous rich grain effect. In keeping with the trend, Ostermann has a wide range of real wood edging with different surface finishes. So

Ostermann offers 15 different types of oak wood edgings.

In terms of stone effect edging, Ostermann has a lot to offer, from the light decor, Agadir, to the dark marble decors such as the high gloss edging Negro Brazil. All ABS and veneer edgings are also available preglued, with Airtec coating and lasermelt, as well as in small batch sizes.

Trend 2: matt colours
Basically, the colour palette is colourful, although still dominant are the colours white, grey and especially black. Coloured lighting and simple accents are being increasingly used to add a splash of colour.

In comparison to the previous years the proportion of high gloss furniture was reduced in favour of matt surfaces. Whether gloss or matt, plain or decor, at Ostermann, the matching edging will be found.

Thus the edging specialist has Europe’s largest range of edging and always the matching edging to the boards of more than 65 board manufacturers covering the whole of Europe.

Trend 3: round shapes
In contrast to the noisy and fast-moving outside world, private housing represents a refuge for the more proven and traditional design. Professional circles  already refer to the Biedemeier style, marked by simplicity and elegance, cosiness and practicality.

So not only are sofas and furniture rounder, also the edges of the furniture must again show more radius. Fortunately, Ostermann has a wide selection of edings with 2mm thickness  available.

The 2mm edging is mostly used because of its good protective properties against bumps. It is still the most popular and requested thickness in the Ostermann range.

The invisible joint is standard
A targeted look at the furniture edges has shown that the new zero joint technology is now firmly established in edge processing. For manufacturers who also want to manufacture furniture with this high quality workmanship, Ostermann delivers on demand, Airtec and the laser edging as a perfect edging solution for the optical zero joint.
