Kronospan was founded in 1897 as a sawmill in Lungotz, Austria. Since then, the business has grown to 39 sites in 20 countries, employing over 14,000 people, and is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of wood-based panels.

Kronospan’s products are trusted across markets in over 120 countries, in sectors ranging from furniture manufacturing and construction to trade and DIY retail. Its rich history and market success have grown from its commitment to innovation and technological development and driving continuous improvements in the quality and sustainability of its products.

Kronospan’s innovation is more than just the boards it makes, it’s also the decors and designs of the melamine-faced boards under the Kronodesign brand. The latest and emerging trends inspire the company’s design teams to ensure that every customer is catered for, from the classical elegance of woodgrains through to contemporary bold colours and metallics.

In the UK, Kronospan has been manufacturing in Chirk, North Wales for over 50 years. Its Chirk site manufactures particle board, medium density fibreboard (MDF), melamine-faced boards and laminate flooring. Kronospan is also proud to claim that it is the UK’s only domestic manufacturer of laminate flooring.

Kronospan’s products manufactured in the UK are made using timber sourced in the UK, keeping its carbon footprint as low as possible. The company has also pioneered the use of recycled timber in its particleboard, achieving industry-leading levels of recycled content, and putting itself forward as the sustainable choice for environmentally conscious consumers.
